Sweden

Viken - Helsingborgs Golfklubb - Viken, Helsingborg, Sweden - 1924

2.738 yards / par 34 (9 holes). Tape designer: William Hester

It doesn't get any better than this. This somewhat hidden, but brilliant 9-hole coastal gem is beautifully and naturally carved out of the dunes of the Sound. The panoramic views, where you can see the sea from all the holes, are absolutely stunning. Especially the views from the 3rd, 7th and 8th tees or the 3rd and 6th greens are fascinating. Not to mention the never-ending boat life in the strait and you can see the entire coastline towards Denmark, from Elsinore to Gilleleje. And on the Swedish side, the views are breathtaking all the way up to the spectacular Kullaberg and Kullabygden.

The fairways are undulating and naturally follow the contours of the sea, the rough and slope tough, the greens undulating and slippery, the bunkers tricky and in the slightest breeze the course changes character completely and becomes a new challenge. A worthy, but fair and totally unforgettable classic seaside links test. This is as close to Scotland as you can get. Perfection - this is Golf Heaven - pure golfing pleasure. Plus as a bonus - the most charming clubhouse in Sweden (listed). Sitting on the balcony afterwards and gazing out over the course, at the boating in the Öresund or a dramatic sunset is absolutely magical.

Ljunghusens Golfklubb - Höllviken, Sweden - 1932

White 2.615 / par 35 (9 holes). Tape designer: Douglas Brasier - Jan Cederholm

Ljunghusen Golf Club boasts an unparalleled 27-hole course, where the irresistible white nine-hole loop (19-27) along the Baltic Sea is classified as true links. Here, history and tradition are neatly packaged, as it is one of the country's ten oldest loops still in use. It is challenging, has character and is very well maintained with panoramic views along the Baltic Sea on holes 22-24 that are absolutely stunning.

The course follows the contours of nature along the coastline and there is actually water in play on the final six holes, which means that in the slightest breeze the course completely changes character and becomes a new challenge. An unforgettable classic links with unparalleled views. The course also borders a large protected wetland, as well as a nature reserve. The white loop is, as I said, one of the few authentic links courses in Sweden, i.e. it is carefully built in a largely natural way on reclaimed sea land, with a setting of rushes and heather combined with roses and a glittering sea. In other words - both the course and the surroundings shine.

Falsterbo Golfklubb - Falsterbo, Sweden - 1909

6.649 yards / par 71. Tape designers: Robert Turnbull - Gunnar Bauer - Peter Nordwall - Peter Chamberlain

Sweden's third oldest golf club. Classic links course and Swedish golf history. A genuine 18-hole seaside links course that often boasts dry fine, rock-hard and wonderfully undulating fairways, hard soapy but fair greens, stripy coarse grass and tough but beautiful heather in the rough and tough turfed bunkers. In other words - a perfect links course - where strategy and improvisation are truly rewarded. Spectacular contours along the coastline and the scenes out towards the Öresund from the 17th and from the tee at the 18th are absolutely magical where the heather, the wild flowers and especially the roses combined with a sparkling sea and boat life, provide panoramic views that are truly fascinating and quite unique in Sweden. Atmosphere and charm, character and tradition.

Torekovs Golfklubb - Torekov, Sweden - 1924

5,682 metres / par 72. Band designer: Åke Persson - Nils Sköld - Peter Chamberlain - Tommy Nordström

Far out on the Bjäre Peninsula, with a wonderful view of Hallands Väderö - where the waves and boating from the Kattegat meet the Skåne coast, lies this challenging and brilliant coastal gem. The course is full of character, incredibly charming, well maintained and with panoramic views and sunsets that can be downright dramatic and leave no one indifferent. The club was founded back in 1924 and since the greens were initially cut with kitchen shears and the holes were made of round anchovy cans, the course has been carefully renovated and developed into a classic masterpiece.

From 9 holes, which were improved in various stages, to 12 holes, which were completed in 1974 and the 18-hole loop was completed in 1978 and now the course is further sharpened with the help of the course designer and links expert Tommy Nordström, which reinforces the genuine and unique Links character. The course offers great variety and is a joy to play. Fantastic finishes, challenging undulating fairways and greens, a links test where you are rewarded if you have different types of shots in your bag. The course is open almost all year round and, depending on the weather and wind, has many "different faces", a light breeze can transform the course completely, which means that there is always variety and unforgettable golfing adventures.
